Clinical Fellow (ST3+) in Gastroenterology
The closing date is 17 June 2025
Job summary
We are looking for a clinical fellow doctor (registrar level) in gastroenterology Taunton and Somerset NHS Foundation Trust. Part time applications will also be considered. The post(s) is intended to provide support to the inpatient team as well as experience in outpatients and endoscopy.
This post provides excellent training in gastroenterology and endoscopy which will help prepare for future gastroenterology ST4 application.
The department of gastroenterology at Musgrove Park Hospital (Taunton and Somerset Hospital) provides a comprehensive service to West Somerset (350,000 population) with over 2,000 new outpatient referrals to the department and over 11,000 endoscopy procedures in the last year. There are currently 7 consultant gastroenterologists providing the full range of gastroenterological care. Gastroenterology is part of the surgical service group.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will have a bespoke job timetable according to their experience and training needs. This will include:
Support to the inpatient gastroenterology service (including reviewing referrals of inpatients from other teams)
Regular outpatient clinics
Depending on the training requirements of the HEE trainees we will provide endoscopy training in the relevant modality, if upper GI endoscopy is the main training requirement this will be offered in a high intensity manner with the aim of achieving independent practice (over 250 procedures) in the first 6 months of the post. This will then allow delivery of service lists during the remainder of the post.
There may be some commitment to the GIM on call rota -- this can be negotiated according to training needs of the successful postholder and the other registrars.
The post holder will be directly clinically supervised by Dr Wesley.
