Main duties of the job

The IT Service Desk is the first point of contact for IT issues for staff working at Somerset NHS Foundation Trust. Therefore, it is important to have good communication skills and a desire to help others to resolve issues they are experiencing, so that they can continue to provide the highest possible quality of patient care.

In the role you will receive phone calls from end users who are in need of support due to an IT fault, or they may need to request a service from Digital Services. You will use an IT Service Management Tool to accurately log the issues and requests that you receive and escalate to a 2nd line support team if needed.

You will also respond to emails from end users and create new user accounts and Smartcards and liaise with 3rd party suppliers. The Service Desk is a busy department so you will be involved in working on different tasks at different times. Attention to detail and the ability to record information accurately and concisely is critical.

An essential skill is to be able to listen to what an end user is telling you and be able to understand the issue and extract the important information.
