Job summary

We are looking for a Practice Development and Improvement Lead Midwife who will support continuous improvement in the quality of services by creating an environment in which clinical excellence will flourish as they oversee the provision of safe, equitable, personalised maternal and neonatal care.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be the lead midwife for practice development and improvement for Somerset Foundation Trust at Musgrove Park Hospital. This is a fulltime substantive post that will require the post holder to build a close effective working relationship with their counterpart at Yeovil District Hospital. There will be elements of shared accountability for driving forwards high standards of care and leading the Trust to meet national standards such as outlined in the MIS Core Competency Framework.

The post holder will be accountable for continuously improving the quality of services and safeguarding high standards of care by creating an environment in which excellence in clinical care will flourish. They will achieve this through the provision and delivery of structured educational programmes including workshops, study days and individual mentoring, coaching and tuition within the clinical environment.

They will provide effective leadership through innovative and creative thinking, challenging the status quo and acting as an agent for change.

They will plan and deliver an educational framework in order to support the Trust's Learning and Development strategies and other publications relating to the provision of maternity and neonatal care.

This is a shared role as part of a cross site team; leadership and roles within the team for particular elements of practice development, improvements and governance will be agreed with the Heads of Midwifery.
