Job summary
Please note that this role is a training post whose end goal is to:
Deliver a holistic patient-focused approach rooted in a multi-professional practice.
Exhibit expert clinical practice in managing complete episodes of care that lead to the best possible outcomes for Head and neck (H&N) cancer patients.
Accept direct referrals into the radiotherapy pathway from Clinical Oncologists/ MDTs (surgeons and other consultants).
The Consultant Therapeutic Radiographer (CTR), once trained, will be responsible for providing a specialist service in their designated patient site specialism which will include:
- Consulting and assessing specifically identified new and follow-up patients
- Consenting patients for specifically defined radiotherapy
- Referring patients for radiotherapy following multidisciplinary review
- Planning, prescribing and authorising specifically defined radiotherapy
- Prescribing medication as an independent prescriber, including SACT as appropriate
- Managing and supporting patients in a holistic manner
Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide expert professional, clinical and managerial advice to facilitate other professionals, multidisciplinary groups, patients and their carers. The post holder will contribute to the development of cancer services within the Trust and to the operational and strategic developments within the service.
The postholder will act as the Radiotherapy AHP lead for the Head and Neck patient cohort throughout the radiotherapy pathway ensuring the patients are given information and support in line with all other specialist areas.
The post holder will provide expert advice for patients within the radiotherapy pathway referring to clinicians as required and working in close liaison with the Consultant Clinical Oncologists (CCOs) in this site specialty.
The post will be structured around five core functions that exemplify the role:
- An expert practice function
- A professional leadership and consultancy function
- An education and training function
- A research and service development function
- A leadership and management function
The post holder will work in collaboration with other CTRs (and other members of the MDT teams) to develop pathways to provide appropriate patient support across the patient journey, locally and nationally.
