Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for a matron in our Surgical Services group within Musgrove Park Hospital. We are seeking an individual who is highly motivated, dynamic, flexible who can provide compassionate leadership, leading by example and developing our teams within the service group. The successful candidate will be working alongside the current operational and theatre matrons, service managers and senior medical colleagues as part of the Surgical Service Group leadership team. You will be required to take on operational responsibilities and support the flow of surgical patients both emergency and elective. The role includes ensuring safe staffing across the surgical wards and specialty teams within surgery to provide high quality evidenced based care. This role is a 14 month fixed term secondment.

Main duties of the job

You will be required to:

- have excellent negotiation, influencing and communication skills and be able to demonstrate mature problem solving skills

- play an active role in the surgical senior leadership team and work collaboratively with the Triumvirate in the continued development of the surgical services group.

- to provide professional and comprehensive advice to clinical managers and staff across the surgical services which supports the day to day running of ward and performance improvement.

- responsibility for overseeing staffing needs, managing establishment requirements and ensuring safe staffing.

- in collaboration with the service governance team, ensure that patient safety incidents are responded to within the requirements of the PSIRF framework.

- to work in conjunction with the patient experience team to respond to patient concerns and complaints in a compassionate and proactive approach focused on resolution and learning.

- To lead on service improvement initiatives across the organisation working collaborations with other stakeholders to continually improve patient care.
