Job summary
Are you an ST1/2 trainee looking to potentially pursue a career in Neuroscience? Somerset NHS Foundation Trust are looking for a clinical fellow to join the Neuroscience department, offering a wide range of training and experience in the Neurorehabilitation Service. We are looking for dynamic individuals who have completed their Foundation Programme training and have experience of working in the NHS.
The Neurorehabilitation department is a ten bed Service (SNRC), located in the village of Cotford St Luke, 4 miles outside of Taunton. This consultant led unit provides specialist neurorehabilitation for people in Somerset with acquired brain injury, other neurological conditions like Guillain-Barre Syndrome/Multiple Sclerosis and some spinal cord injuries. You will be working alongside an interdisciplinary team comprising highly experienced trainee ACP, nurses, neuro-physiotherapists, neuro-occupational therapists, neuro-speech and language therapists and clinical psychologist, with ready access to dietitians and social workers. You will be a part of highly established team and will work in close harmony to achieve rehabilitation goals. You will be responsible for daily management of medical problems and assisting in the delivery of rehabilitation goals.
Main duties of the job
- Full clerking of new admissions.
- Discharge summaries on EPRO electronic records system, including detailed input from all MDT disciplines: medics, neuropsychology, PT, OT, SALT, Dietitian
- Ordering investigations including bloods, X-Rays, Ultrasound, CT, MRI, ECG
- ECG - independent reading and auctioning as appropriate/seeking advice
- Accessing results of above investigations, actioning, accessing formal reports and highlighting to/discussing findings with Consultant/MDT members
- Monitoring bloods
- Taking bloods when necessary
- Dealing first-on with acute situations, e.g. sepsis, chest pain, chest infections, UTIs, PE, cellulitis, sudden/severe headache, seizures, abdominal pain, assessment following falls, whether consultant on or off site
- Prescribing medication, including IV fluids, IV antibiotics, Insulin, Oxygen
- Interpreting NEWS2 scores, including COPD patients on scale 2
- Completing TEP forms, VTE forms, Orange falls form
- Working independently on routine matters, whether consultant on or off site
