Are you an experienced pharmacy technician with a passion for Medicines Optimisation? Join Somerset NHS Foundation Trust as a Lead Pharmacy Technician -- Medicines Optimisation, where you'll lead and manage Medicines Optimisation processes, ensuring compliance and supporting the development of pharmacy staff.

Main duties of the job

The Lead Medicine Optimisation Technician principal role is responsible for leading and delivering a comprehensive Medicine Optimisation service across site. The poster holder will be responsible for line management, co-ordination and development of Medicine Optimisation Pharmacy Technicians and Assistants.

The Lead Technician will respond innovatively and proactively to the changing demand on the service and will ensure that it is provided in a professional, safe, timely and efficient manner at all times. The post holder will lead on specific projects and audits related to Medicine Optimisation as set by the Clinical Pharmacy lead.

This role will also include Medicine reconciliation, assessment of patients own drugs, counselling patients about their medicine, discharge facilitation and ward and dispensary-based medication supply.

Essential

  • NVQ Level in 3 Pharmacy Services or equivalent and BTEC in Pharmaceutical Science or equivalent
  • Accredited Medicines Optimisation Technician
  • Managing Patients medicines requirements (PODs & One-stop) PWDS or equivalent
  • Medicine Reconciliation PWDS or equivalent
  • Discharge facilitation PWDS or equivalent(or willing to complete)
  • Clinical prioritisation (or willing to complete)
  • Accredited Accuracy Checking Technician or willing to work towards Accredited Checking Technician accreditation within 6 months of commencing employment.(MPH/YDH site only)

Desirable

  • Assessor Accreditation - NVQ, AVA, TAQA, A1 or equivalent Assessor qualification, CAVA
  • APTUK membership
  • Pro pharmace educational supervisor course

Experience

  • Extensive hospital pharmacy experience
  • Management of supervising teams and staff
  • Experience of staff appraisal and objective setting
  • Demonstrated experience of delivering high quality training to multiple staff groups such as Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacy Assistants.
  • Demonstrable use of clinical audit/research to improve practice.
  • Experience of project management
  • Understanding of medicine optimisation in mental health environment (Community/Mental health team only)
  • Experience of dispensing medicine for patients and counselling and providing advice for patients/carers
  • Working as part of a multi-professional team within a clinical/ward environment
