Main duties of the job

  • Carry out advanced assessment and management of patients within this specialty who may have a complex presentation and / or a multi-pathology presentation, determining best delivery of care, in conjunction with the multi-disciplinary team (MDT).
  • To work as an autonomous professional according to the Royal College of Occupational Therapists (RCOT) standards of care and professional conduct.
  • To support service reviews / audits in order to evaluate quality, efficiency and outcomes with a view to implementing change of practice, to ensure that a high standard of clinical practice and patient care is maintained.
  • To develop relationships with professional colleagues locally, regionally and nationally if required; developing clinical pathways relevant to hand therapy.
  • To take a lead role in the supervision, teaching and appraisal of junior therapists, non-qualified therapy staff & students to graduate level, and multi-disciplinary team (MDT) staff in the care of patients within this specialty.

  • HCPC registrationDiploma / degree in Occupational TherapyEvidence of CPD maintained in a portfolio including evidence of recent postgraduate learning

Desirable

  • Post-graduate accredited course in Hand Therapy e.g. BAHT Level 1.Relevant post graduate hand therapy course e.g. splinting / workshops etc.Member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy or Royal College of Occupational TherapistsMembership of relevant special interest group e.g. BAHT
