IBD Biologics and Systemics Pathway Coordinator
Somerset NHS Foundation Trust
This job is now closed
Job summary
This is a new role and an exciting opportunity for an experienced individual with excellent computer, administrative and communication skills to join the inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) team to coordinate and support the prescribing process for long term biologic or systemic drugs. We are looking for an individual who works well as a team member yet can use their own initiative as needed and who has a high level of attention to detail.
Patients with moderate or severe Crohn's Disease, Ulcerative Colitis and IBD-U (IBD Unclassified), as well as, less frequently, Microscopic Colitis, often require treatment with long term biologic or systemic drugs. These work by targeting selective parts of the immune system that are overactive in IBD; when these pathways are blocked, the inflammation is reduced, usually resulting in clinical improvement. The number of drugs that have been approved and licensed in IBD continues to evolve, and, at present, we have at least 8 different drugs that we prescribe. The Musgrove Park Hospital (MPH) IBD service has over 550 patients who are prescribed these treatments.
Main duties of the job
This role is to support the processes outlined above and to work closely with the team to provide an excellent service for patients with IBD prescribed these treatments. The post holder must exercise initiative and judgement when dealing with patient enquiries, requests, prescriptions, referrals, and results and be able to prioritise importance, accordingly. The post holder will attend the weekly MDT meetings and follow up outcomes requiring action, where needed. They will ensure that all communication is fully completed and shared, where required.
The successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring and updating our IBD Biologics database.
