Job summary

We are looking to recruit a suitably qualified Respiratory Physiologist to join our friendly team at the Respiratory lab in the Somerset Lung Centre, Taunton.

It would be an ideal opportunity for someone who has recently qualified or just completing BSc Clinical Physiology (respiratory). The department offers a wide range of both routine and specialist respiratory investigations.

You should ideally be ARTP registered or applying for it, have experience working in respiratory physiology particularly in specialist areas (e.g. exercise testing, sleep physiology). You must have a desire to continue with personal development and be involved in all aspects of respiratory work.

Excellent communication skills are essential within this small team and you must be able to both use your own initiative and work as part of a team across the Trust.

Applicants must have completed the BSc Clinical Physiology/ science or equivalent qualification and have obtained an ARTP competence qualification in lung function testing.

Main duties of the job

You will be expected to perform diagnostic and therapeutic assessments of patients within a specialised physiology setting such as full lung function tests, challenge testing, sleep studies, CPAP trials and exercise tests.

This post involves performing full lung function tests, using both body plethysomography and helium dilution techniques, issuing and downloading overnight oximeters with the aim to reporting the results. Complex investigations will include methacholine challenge, CPET and exercise induced asthma and skin prick testing. The sleep service covers a wide range of conditions so will involve home video studies, CPAP issue and review as well as NIV issue and follow up.

About us

As an organisation, the NHS offers a wide range of benefits including flexible working, pension contributions, market leading annual leave allowance, career progression and regular conversations, not to mention our Blue Light Card and NHS exclusive discounts.

The benefits of working in Somerset include the idyllic countryside, with our areas of outstanding beauty and stunning coastlines. You will get to enjoy these perks whilst still only being a stone's throw away from bustling city centres like Bristol, Bath and Exeter and only two hours away from London.

There are excellent educational facilities in the area and, when compared to other regions, house prices are reasonable. You will experience the best of both in Somerset, the countryside and the cosmopolitan - there is truly something for everyone!
