Job summary

Somerset NHS Foundation Trust are seeking to appoint two Consultant Neurologists to join our team, to join the four substantive Consultant Neurologists in the county of Somerset. The job is based primarily at Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton but also delivers outpatient clinic and ward consultations for patients at Yeovil District Hospital in the east of the county. Neurosurgery and interventional neuroradiology takes place at Southmead Hospital, Bristol; there is a weekly neuroradiology MDT with Bristol.

Specialty education meetings take place once a week at Southmead Hospital in Bristol (currently attended online) and the post will also involve commitments to undergraduate and postgraduate education.

Main duties of the job

Outpatient clinics take place at Musgrove Park Hospital and community hospitals, and one day a week in Yeovil District Hospital. While outpatient clinics are primarily in general neurology, there is scope to develop a specialist service and lead service developments and improvements.

The post holder will be responsible for the professional supervision and management of junior medical staff. In addition, the post holder will be responsible for the clinical supervision of agreed practitioner / clinical specialist roles within the department.
