Job summary
Applications are invited for the post of a Consultant General Paediatrician at Somerset Foundation Trust - Yeovil Site.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated colleague to join our established team. Further subspecialty interests to complement those of the department would be welcomed.
There are currently 10 programmed activities available for this post.
This is a permanent but fixed term may or can be offered under the appropriate circumstances.
The successful candidate will join an existing team of six Consultants and one Associate Specialist on a 1:7 rota with on call. To provide a range of Child Health Services within a fully integrated organisation

Provide general in-patient and out-patient paediatric services for children & young people, also for new born infants who require specialist input as for a level 1 unit.
To be integrated into the current "Consultant of the Week" system for one week in seven with prospective cover.Share in the non-resident on-call responsibilities, including conducting ward rounds when "Consultant of the Week".

Job responsibilities
- Provide general in-patient and out-patient paediatric services for children & young people, also for new born infants who require specialist input.
- Conduct General Paediatrics Outpatient clinics.
- Integrate into the current Consultant of the Week system for one week in seven with prospective cover. During that week starting on Friday morning the consultant is responsible for all admissions and has no other fixed morning clinics and is on-call over the weekend & for one other night. The consultant will not be expected to work on the Monday afternoon following the weekend on-call nor the following Friday.
- Share in the on-call responsibilities, including conducting ward rounds when Consultant of the Week.
- Work within the existing multidisciplinary teams to provide continuity of care.
- Contribute to the undergraduate and postgraduate teaching program.
- Contribute to the training and supervision of trainee doctors.
- Fulfil requirements of continuing professional development, clinical governance, and appraisal.
- Contribute to the strategic and administrative development of the department and local Child Health services.
