You will be joining a team of 5 consultants and 2 speciality doctors dedicated to community child health, particularly children with neurodisability, including epilepsy. You'll have a special interest in neurodisability and epilepsy to complement the department's existing expertise. Musgrove Park Hospital houses 12 consultant general paediatricians responsible for acute paediatric ward and on-call coverage on a 1:11 service week rotation. Neonatal care is managed by a separate team of 6 consultant neonatal paediatricians, with this position not involving on-call duties.
Due to our merge with Yeovil District Hospital this year, Somerset Foundation Trust offers a wide range of acute and community health services and strengthened connections with Primary Care. All children's services, including Paediatrics, CAMHS, and Children & Young People's Therapy Services, now operate under the same directorate..
Main duties of the job
You will be an enthusiastic paediatrician with a special interest in neurodisability, community child health and epilepsy, providing weekly clinics in neurodisability and have responsibility for children with special needs/neurodisability living within their geographical patch. The patch covered will be in the east and south of Somerset to include Chard, Langport and areas.
You will also deliver locality clinics in these areas at local hospitals (Chard Community Hospital). In addition, you'll have responsibility to children at one of Somerset's special schools. Currently care of children with epilepsy is shared between three of the community consultants and you will contribute to this by providing a weekly clinic.
The role does not currently contain regular Child Protection Clinics but there may be scope to add these on discussion of role if desired.
