Job summary
The Grace Centre; located within the Old Building of Musgrove Park Hospital; provides diagnostic facilities for patients referred to both Gynae Oncology and general Gynaecology services.
The role of the registered nurse is to provide support and assistance with procedures undertaken by either the specialist nursing team or Consultants. Procedures such as colposcopy; hysteroscopy and other intimate examinations are undertaken across the week. The registered nurse will be proactive and supportive to patients and their family at all times.
There is also the potential for the registered nurse to undertake (following appropriate training) cervical smears as an independent practitioner.
The RN will be a key part of the multi professional team

Demonstrate advanced communication skills when supporting and providing information to patients and their families in what is often emotional times
Ensure practice within the outpatient setting is undertaken in accordance with National and Local guidance; including the safe handling of equipment and specimens as an example.
The post holder is required during clinical sessions to inform and offer psychological support to patents and the families of patients who are undergoing diagnostic tests. This requires the use of highly complex communication skills such as listening, counselling, informing, advising, negotiating and motivating.
