This is an exciting time for a CBT Therapist to join our newly created ARMS Service. ARMS is an innovative development within EIP services nationally and this is an excellent opportunity to work proactively and preventatively in mental health.
You'll be responsible for providing timely access to Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for individuals who are at risk of developing a First Episode of Psychosis.
The At Risk Mental State (ARMS) is a specialty within Early Intervention Psychosis Services that works with young people and adults across Somerset who are aged between 18-25. We provide assessment and treatment for people who may be experiencing prodromal symptoms and have a high risk of developing a psychosis in the near future.
The aim of working with this group is to reduce the number of people making the transition to developing a First Episode of Psychosis. ARMS is an innovative development within EIP services nationally and this is an exciting opportunity to work proactively and preventatively in mental health.
This is a countywide post, base negotiable with expectation of travel across Somerset as required.
Main duties of the job
You'll be responsible for robust assessment and formulation of a service user's psychological needs and offering highly skilled care-planning in response to the formulation and communicate this accordingly to those involved in the care of the service user.
You'll ensure that effective, tailored, evidence based psychological assessments and interventions are delivered to service users and their families.
You'll contribute to the clinical leadership of the team, providing supervision for other team members as agreed with the Team Manager and will participate in team and service development and evaluation. Liaison with a wide range of partners is central to the role.

Accept referrals via agreed protocols within the service.
Provide a high quality innovative clinical service to service users who are at risk of experiencing Psychosis. Be proactive in clinical decision making, under pinning an advanced level of theoretical and practical knowledge to be able to demonstrate improved patient care outcomes.
Undertake comprehensive specialist assessment and formulation where needs are highly complex to ascertain appropriate treatment, delivering advanced CBT interventions and to include family work interventions.
Assess clients for suitability for psychological interventions.
Use highly developed communication skills in working with people to understand their personal and often very sensitive difficulties.
To exercise autonomous professional responsibility for the assessment and treatment of complex clients in line with the service.
Educate and involve family members and others in treatment as necessary, conveying CBT and other psychological formulations with sensitivity in easily understood language.
Adhere to an agreed activity contract relating to the number of client contacts offered and clinical sessions carried out per week in order to minimise waiting times and ensure treatment delivery remains accessible and convenient.
Attend multi-disciplinary meetings relating to referrals or clients in treatment where appropriate.
Keep coherent records of all clinical activity in line with Trust policy.
Work closely with other members of the team ensuring appropriate step up and step-down arrangements are in place to maintain a stepped care approach.
