This job is now closed
Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity for a Surgical or Medical Consultant Dermatologist to join our busy, innovative and friendly team to enhance Dermatology services across South Somerset.
This is a new post for a countywide Consultant Dermatologist, based at Somerset Foundation Trust, which reflects the increase in workload in both general Dermatology and in particular, the increasing demand for skin cancer management. Candidates with additional sub-specialty interests are also encouraged to apply. The post-holder will be part of a multi-disciplinary team delivering a responsive service to patients in a clinical setting.
Main duties of the job
This is a full-time post to respond to local demand for Dermatology. An interest in skin cancer is particularly relevant to Somerset where the incidence of all types of skin cancer is in the top 10% nationally. Dermatological surgery and Mohs are elements of the service due for development and highlighted in GIRFT.
Musgrove is the site of the Oncology service for Somerset and the Specialist Skin MDT. The post holder will be part of the Dermatology support for this MDT and join surgical colleagues and the Dermatology colleagues from Yeovil by link. The SSMDT is run in large part by the skin cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist team in Musgrove and Yeovil and currently chaired by a Medical Oncologist.
The Consultant will work closely with 4 skin cancer Clinical Nurse Specialists, 2 medical Dermatology Clinical Nurse Specialists and one medical Dermatology Advanced Clinical Practitioner. A further team of 4 nurses run the Phototherapy and PDT service. This team is supplemented by expertise from the East of the county with an additional complement of 6 Advanced Clinical Practitioners, Clinical Nurse Specialists and Dermatology nurses.
Applicants must be fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at time of application. Applicants must also have entry on the GMC Specialist Register in Dermatology via CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of the interview date), CESR or European Community Rights.
