Job summary

We are advertising for an Assistant Psychologist who will be an integral part of delivering psychologically informed care to adults in our Community Mental Health Service.

This post will be attractive to applicants who would like to develop professionally across a broad range of psychological competencies. We are recruiting an Assistant Psychologist at band 5 to reflect the applicants' skills in undertaking psychological interventions drawing on evidence base models of care, multi-disciplinary and multiagency liaison skills, as well as having experience of working with risk and complexity.

We are looking for applicants who are resilient, reflective and motivated to work psychologically with these client groups and with an interest in developing the service further.

Main duties of the job

As an Assistant Psychologist joining the South Somerset Team you will be working into our local multi-disciplinary team. You'll be offering a broad range of activities (assisting in assessment, formulation, intervention, evaluation etc.).

Somerset Foundation Trust have a network of Psychology Assistants and Clinical Associate Psychologists and therefore there are opportunities for peer support. This post holder will, with the support and supervision of Clinical Psychologists, be working with a range of presenting difficulties, and offering interventions made bespoke to the individual needs.

  • First degree in psychology (first or upper second). Eligibility for Graduate Membership of The BPS.
  • Experience of working in community settings.
  • Demonstrable experience of working directly with a vulnerable client group, including experience of working psychologically with people with mental health problems
  • Experience of undertaking planned psychological interventions with adults with learning disabilitieswho are experiencing mental health problems
  • Must be a car driver with a valid driving licence or have access to transport with appropriate business insurance in order to travel throughout the Trust, to meet the needs of the service and willingness to drive to different locations across the county

  • Further qualification in an appropriate subject
  • Experience of working with people with mild to moderate mental health problems
  • Experience of developing therapeutic relationships with people who can be hard to engage
