Job summary

We are currently looking for a Dermatology Clinical Nurse Specialist to join our enthusiastic close-knit team who are committed, driven individuals that are passionate about ensuring outstanding patient care is our highest priority.

This is an exciting opportunity to help reshape the service. Dermatology will be configured as a largely nurse-led department which will function with continued consultant overview. The workload will be mainly comprised of people with complex or challenging skin diseases on systemic medication that requires expert monitoring and supervision.

Somerset NHS Foundation Trust is a dynamic integrated Trust with integrity and vision. The Trust runs a regional collaborative multidisciplinary service for the treatment and monitoring of complex Dermatology patients and patients with skin cancer.

Musgrove Park Hospital is situated in Taunton, in the middle of Somerset. It has on-site parking and excellent transport links. The bus from town arrives every 12 mins and there are two Park and Rides which drop off at the hospital. It is close to the M5 which gives easy access to Bristol and Exeter.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will provide advice, support and information from the time of diagnosis and throughout the patients care pathway through consultation, treatment, prescribing, minor operations, aftercare, education and training.

Working closely with the team in the secondary care and the community settings you will act as a role model to ensure a co-ordinated quality service, being actively involved in education, audit, research and development.

This new role has been designed to expand an existing model of nurse-led, consultant-supported, Dermatology service at Musgrove Park Hospital, for both outpatient and inpatient care. Alongside the Dermatology Advanced Clinical Practitioner this role is placed within a specialised team with a high level of independent working whilst maintaining clear and effective communication with members of the team, patients and their families. Elements of the job will bridge the primary and secondary care interface and expect to include teledermatology, prescribing, minor operations, aftercare, education and training.

The post holder will work as a skilled Dermatology practitioner as part of the multidisciplinary team to deliver high quality care to patients. The post holder will work across departmental and professional boundaries, encouraging inter-disciplinary working for the benefit of improved patient outcomes and efficient use of resources.
