Job summary
We are seeking a full-time Consultant Haematologist (10PA) based at Musgrove Park Hospital within the Somerset NHS Foundation Trust. This is a replacement post for a retiring colleague. The post is primarily based at Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton but all Consultants contribute to a County wide service that includes visiting sessions and on call commitments at Yeovil District Hospital. The post-holder will share clinical and laboratory duties with seven other consultant colleagues and will work within our team of seven haematology specialist nurses, two SAS doctors, two specialist registrars, one IMT doctor and one clinical fellow. The appointees will be core members of the pan-Somerset Haematology multidisciplinary team. There is flexibility within our existing team to welcome applicants with either a malignant or haemostasis/thrombosis subspecialty interest and for individuals to develop subspecialty interests with these roles.
Although these are full time posts, we would be happy to discuss the option of working less than full time on an individual basis.
Main duties of the job

State of the art outpatient and day care facilities are offered by this facility, which is co-located with radiotherapy facilities and an inpatient Oncology ward. About us
Somerset Foundation Trust and Yeovil District Hospital have merged as of April 2023. Both sites have significant capital programmes, which will be coming to fruition within the next two to three years. Yeovil District Hospital received a £15 million investment from the government to develop part of the Hospital and reduce waiting times for patients. The first part of our development plans will see Yeovil District Hospital's main theatre receive a significant refurbishment, including increasing space in the recovery area, and an extension that will add a fifth theatre, increasing the number of operations that can be performed. This is coupled with the £5 million investment into an additional new day surgery unit and modular outpatient unit. A new Surgical Centre will also be opening at Musgrove Park Hospital in the Spring of 2025. The county also has a well-established programme of improvement work supporting the effective and efficient management of outpatient services (Somerset Transformation of Outpatient Care).
Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton is a successful and progressive District General Hospital, the largest in Somerset, with an excellent reputation for providing a comprehensive range of Medical, Surgical and specialist services and an excellent teaching environment. The Acute Hospital Trust has recently merged with our community Trust. From 1st April 2023 it has now merged with Yeovil District Hospital to provide a unified secondary care provider for Somerset.
