Job summary

We are very pleased to be in a position to advertise the role of Tobacco Reduction Programme Manager at Somerset NHS Foundation Trust.

Following the successful implementation of our Tobacco Reduction Service, this role will be instrumental in further developing this programme in the organisation.

Somerset Foundation Trust is the first merged Trust in the England and comprises of acute, mental health and community services. Our services stretch across the whole county of Somerset so this role will require travel to multiple sites.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for someone who is organised, persuasive and determined alongside a passion for reducing the harm caused by tobacco.

The aim of the Tobacco Reduction Programme is to:

  • Increase the support we offer to people who are admitted to, or attend our hospitals and community based services, to help them to stop smoking or to reduce harm from tobacco and be smokefree during an inpatient admission (temporary abstinence).
  • The programme will also provide more support to staff who wish to quit and help us to have smoke free hospitals and grounds.

Your main role will be to lead the development and project management of the implementation of the Tobacco Reduction Programme in the Trust. Working at a strategic level, you'll develop strategies and programmes and make recommendations to ensure the delivery of best practice interventions for health improvement and illness prevention in patients, carers, visitors and staff.

You'll work alongside a clinical team who are engaged and supportive of this programme and actively engage with our public health colleagues in Somerset. The Trust focuses on quality improvement, a well-established improvement team can provide project support and awareness of the latest Quality Improvement initiatives.

You'll also provide management and leadership to a team of four Tobacco Reduction Practitioners split between Taunton and Yeovil, and one Service Administrator based in Taunton.
