Job summary

An excellent opportunity has arise for a Cancer Support Worker within the Uro-Oncology service at Musgrove Park Hospital.

The successful candidate will work alongside the Uro-Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist team, as well as the wider MDT group, providing general information and support. By supporting independence and self management the role enables people to navigate the health and social care system and make choices that are best for their cancer and their lifestyle.

The cancer support worker is instrumental in support the Urology Clinical Nurse Specialists in providing exceptional patient care to patients who are progressing through various cancer diagnosis and treatment pathways, with a particular focus on supporting in the Holistic Needs Assessments of patients.

The post holder will demonstrate excellent organisational skills, must be flexible in approach, able to exercise initiative and demonstrate a consistently high standard of professionalism, being aware of the need for confidentiality and integrity.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will support the Macmillan Urology Clinical Nurse Specialist team in the delivery of nursing care and service to patients who are on the Urology Cancer pathway; enabling delivery of the care in line with the National Cancer Services standards and NICE guidance for Urological Cancers.

Provide practical support to the Macmillan Urology CNS team by contributing to patients assessment and care planning decisions through the supervision of the Macmillan Urology CNS team. To assist in the co-ordination of patient pathways for all patients who are suspected or diagnosed with a Urological cancer.
