Job summary

Are you a Consultant Psychiatrist who is dedicated and passionate about improving mental health services? Are you looking for your next role as a dynamic leader in General Adults Psychiatry?

Here at Somerset NHS Foundation Trust, we are looking for an enthusiastic Consultant Psychiatrist to join our team of community consultants covering Minehead, located in the South West of England.

Due to the expansion of Consultant input into the Minehead community mental health service (CMHS), we have been given the opportunity to recruit an additional full time consultant into the team,

Although this is a full-time post, there may be some flexibility in working part time as we understand that you may have other commitments. Also, flexibility in percentage of work that can be done remotely will be considered.

There will be limited cover required for HTT patients in Minehead. The home treatment team is based in Foundation house in Taunton but medical input, when required comes from the psychiatrist providing a service to Minehead.

Main duties of the job

The Minehead Community Mental Health Team is based in the Barnfield Unit in Minehead Community hospital. On site are the older adult service, other community services such as district nurses, a minor injury unit and a rehabilitation ward following discharge from Musgrove Park hospital, Taunton. The hospital is based within the town, close to retail shopping, and 400 meters from the waterfront. It is a scenic and calm location surrounded by hills, woods, and managed waterways. There is ample, free parking on site.

A bespoke job plan can be created depending on successful applicants experience and expertise as the direct clinical care component required for Minehead CMHT is unlikely to be more than 6 PAs. Therefore management, educational, service development or other SPA activity can be considered a apart of the job plan.

The core CMHT works closely with the wider community mental health service and is referred to as CMHS. This consists of therapists, psychologists, occupational therapists, social workers, mental health nurses, psychiatrists and three managers. We work together especially in complex cases and where there is higher risk to support patients and colleagues. This working together includes within patient consultation, professionals' meetings, care planning, referrals meetings and multi-disciplinary team meetings.
