Are you excited about starting a new career in theatre and developing your role? We are recruiting registered anaesthetic practitioners (ODPs or Registered Nurses) to work within our operating Theatres at Somerset NHS Foundation Trust.

We have vacancies in Anaesthetics, in a range of specialties including Orthopaedics, ENT, Max fax, and Ophthalmology. This is an extremely exciting time to join the department due to the addition of a new purpose built Surgical Centre, planned for 2024. With state of the art facilities at our finger tips we aim to take our team to next level, and you with it!
Please note before application that you MUST be:
- An experienced theatre RGN with an Anaesthetic Assistant qualification
- A qualified/qualifying Operating Department Practitioner,
Main duties of the job
- Works as part of the clinical team providing direct patient care, primarily as an assistant to the anaesthetist
- Plans, implements, delivers and evaluates care given by self and other team members to patients and their relatives
- Assist in emergency situations and initiate emergency procedures in line with policy
- Act as the patients' advocate
- Liaise with all members of the multidisciplinary team
- Be clinically competent in all areas of practice relevant to the post
- Take direct responsibility for ensuring cleaning standards are maintained throughout the shift
- Ensure that Privacy and Dignity of patients is maintained at all times
- Collect patients from the wards and escort to theatre
- May take on extended roles such as cell salvage, following completion of required training and competency assessment
- Maintain accurate clinical records
- Works flexibly across the theatres as required
- Ensure that all quality initiatives within the nursing environment are adhered to and that the highest standards of care are maintained at all times.
- Communicate with patients, relatives and carers sensitive clinical information in an appropriate way
- Supervises junior colleagues
- Delivers training for one to one induction and ongoing training for new and temporary staff, mentorship for students and preceptorship for newly qualified staff
- The post holder will be required to manage conflicting priorities and may be required to switch tasks with little notice
