Job summary

We are currently recruiting to a Facilities Service Assistant position, this role includes the following duties: cleaning, portering and catering.

The vacancy is within the Facilities Team based at your local community Hospital - Burnham on Sea

Burnham Hospital has a Minor Injuries Unit, Outpatient Department and Physiotherapy Department and ward.

We have 2 vacancies available, one for 15 hours per week and the second one for 20 hours per week, to be worked over a 7 day period to suit the needs of the service. The service runs between the hours of 07:30 and 19:00hrs and the pattern will reflect this.

A flexible working pattern is in place covering evenings and weekends.

Main duties of the job

The main duties of the role will include the following:

Cleaning:

Cleaning departments within the Hospital such as inpatients, outpatients, toilets, meeting rooms & offices.

Portering:

Removal of waste, movement of supplies, acceptance of deliveries, ordering of laundry.

Catering:

Prepare patient meals using a cook freeze service. Cleaning duties within the main kitchen.

Job description

Job responsibilities

To work under guidance from the Facilities Team leader, Facilities Housekeeper and Facilities Head of Catering where applicable.

The post holder will be required to report faults and defects.

Completion of all mandatory training required within the job role, such as COSHH, safe use of equipment, moving and handling, food hygiene etc.

Have a basic understanding of IT.

Completion of all Trust required monitoring sheets and documentation.

To work as part of a dedicated team in a flexible manner, be willing to work across the disciplines listed below:

Cleaning:

To clean areas to a high and recognised standard, following National Cleaning Standards 2021 Guidance.

  • Work closely with the ward and Infection Control team to ensure areas are cleaned as appropriate in a timely manner.
  • To exercise good hand and personal hygiene at all times, following Infection Control procedures.
  • Cleaning duties include floor mopping, damp dusting, low- and high-level dusting, bed cleaning, vacuuming, curtain changing & spot cleaning of carpets.
  • Complete ad hoc cleans when a patient moves to another area.
  • Support the ward team with the service of meals, replenishing water jugs and delivery of hot drinks.
  • Undertake work in the ward pantry, including washing up, stock rotation and cleaning.
  • Laundering of mops and cloths used at ward level.
  • Undertake legionella flushing in line with Trust Policy.

Portering:

  • Moving of waste and laundry to holding areas in line with Policies, supporting the collection by external companies.
  • Place basic orders with suppliers.
  • Accept and pack away deliveries as required.
  • Ensure external areas are kept clean and tidy.
  • Follow Trust guidance for gritting and snow clearance.
  • Change curtains as per local protocol.
  • Oversee the provision of Oxygen to patients as directed by the Facilities Team Leader.
  • Undertake cleaning duties as required, internally and externally.
  • Transport patients and equipment around the Hospital.
  • Laundering of mops and cloths used at ward level.
  • Undertake legionella flushing in line with Trust Policy.

Catering:

  • Prepare basic hot and cold food items for patients meals.
  • Counting of patient menus.
  • Prepare special diets for patients, including those with swallowing difficulties and allergies.
  • Place basic orders for deliveries.
  • Accept and pack away deliveries.
  • Complete all record sheets required within the job role.
  • Undertake temperature monitoring in line with HACCP document.
  • Complete cleaning duties within the main kitchen.
  • Provide refreshments for meetings and special events.
  • Communicate with ward team and housekeeper re any changes to the patient meal service.
