Job summary

The Beacon Centre Day Unit is a forward thinking and progressive nurse led unit which takes pride in its ability to provide excellent patient centered care whilst optimising the best outcomes for patients.

We ensure patients throughout Somerset requiring Systemic Anti-Cancer Treatment receive a high standard of care from point of diagnosis to completion of treatment.

Main duties of the job

You will be working within Chemotherapy Day Unit and outpatient department alongside the nursing team assisting in the co-ordination of the unit's activities to maximise efficiency, undertaking clinical skills such as cannulation, venesection and central line management.

Supporting the Registered Nurse team in the delivery of systemic anti-cancer therapy (SACT) within Beacon Day Unit and community satellite units, assisting the registered nurses to deliver Anti-systemic cancer treatments to our two off site sub hubs in the area, therefore a driving licence and willingness to travel is essential.

Also supporting outpatient activity, including phlebotomy, assisting the Nurse Specialists in clinical activities such as bone marrow aspiration and TVEC.Liaise with nursing and oncology pharmacy staff to co-ordinate supply of SACT availability for time of each patient's appointment.Support the nursing team in ensuring patients receive their supportive medications prior to discharge and their next appointment and blood sample form.Refer patients to community nursing team (where required) as directed by the nursing staff.

Ability to communicate effectively with patients and contribute to the monitoring of maintenance and cleanliness of the care environment as required throughout shift.
