We are looking for a passionate, dedicated CAMHS consultant to join our credited 'CQC - OUTSTANDING' service.

Somerset Foundation Trust SFT is the first trust to have Integrated Acute Medical and Surgical Specialities, Mental Health, Community and Primary care services.

2 Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrists roles have become available, to cover the East (Yeovil and surrounding area) and West (Taunton and surrounding area) of Somerset due to retirement. We are a highly flexible service and can discuss your desired hours, with a total of 16 PAS available across the service.

Main duties of the job

The Trust has a compassionate and supportive senior medical leadership team and there is a clear operational management structure, with a highly functioning multi-disciplinary workforce. The Chief Medical Officer of SFT, Prof Dan Meron, is also a psychiatrist, ensuring parity of mental and physical health embedded into trust culture. Head of CAMHS Claudine Brown is also Interim Head for Paediatrics, and there is strong partnership working with Education and Social care, which has supported a culture of integrated holistic care for young people and their families. Your CAMHS Clinical Director, Dr Barton, is also the Lead Medical Appraiser for SFT and is a RCPsych examiner and will support both your professional performance, development and learning throughout your lifelong career. Somerset FT Community CAMHS was awarded an outstanding for its innovative patient centred approach, the our deeply committed staff working together, the feedback from our service users and no waiting times.

CAMHS has over 100 WTE clinicians. Somerset Community CAMHS is made up of a range of community and specialist teams including; Single Point of Access, Community Teams, Enhanced Outreach/Home Treatment Team, CAMHS Liaison, Mental Health in Schools Teams, Community Eating Disorder Service, National Deaf CAMHS, Forensic CAMHS and Tier 2.5 Service and links to Wessex House regional inpatient service.

Qualifications

Essential

  • MBBS, MBChB or equivalent
  • Full GMC Registration
  • Section 12 MHA approval
  • Evidence of AC/RC approval or in process of application
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register; or will be within 6 months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at time of interview

Desirable

  • MRCPsych Examination passed
  • Success in Intercollegiate Specialty Examination or equivalent

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on a range of problems in child and adolescent psychiatry
  • Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
  • Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining UK CCT in child and adolescent psychiatry

Skills and Abilities

Essential

  • Medical educator and up to date with training as a clinical and educational supervisor or willing to undertake training
  • Compassionate - Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with young people, carers and allied professionals remaining sensitive and empathetic.
  • Sufficient leadership, organisational, professional and personal skills to undertake effectively the role of consultant or Associate Specialist in a health community.
  • Excellent oral & written communication skills - including active listening skills, competency in English to a level that enables the role to be undertaken effectively and to assure the delivery of safe care to patients, the ability to understand and summarise a discussion, ask appropriate questions, provide constructive challenge and give effective feedback
