Job summary
Applications are invited for the post of Clinical Fellow Higher (ST6+) in Paediatric Oncology, Haematology and BMT. Join the Addenbrooke's Hospital team in our renowned Principle Treatment Centre. This post is available for a period of 12 months commencing as soon as possible.
This 12 month post offers exceptional exposure to complex malignant and non-malignant pathologies, managing 150 new diagnoses annually across the East of England.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will function as a senior member of the clinical team, providing high-quality care to patients across the inpatient ward, day unit, and outpatient clinics, as well as providing advice to our eight Paediatric Oncology Shared Care Units within the region.
- Clinical Management: Lead daily ward rounds, manage acute admissions, and oversee the care of patients undergoing chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and BMT.
- Management of outpatients in the Paediatric Day Unit.
- Specialised Procedures: Perform and supervise core procedures, including lumbar punctures (with intrathecal chemotherapy), bone marrow aspirates, and trephines biopsies.
- Multidisciplinary Working: Actively participate in weekly MDT meetings, coordinating with Consultants, Specialist Nurses, Pharmacists and Allied Health Professionals.
- Out of Hours (OOH): Contribute to a dedicated specialty middle-grade rota, providing evening and weekend cover specifically for the Haem/Onc/BMT service.
- BMT Service: Support the peri-transplant period for patients, including pre-transplant workup and management of post-transplant complications (e.g., GvHD, opportunistic infections).
- Supervising and supporting junior medical staff.

Full Registration and a Licence to Practice with the General Medical Council at the point of commencement is required.
About us
The applicant must have demonstrable skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking in English that enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues, as set out in the GMC's Good Medical Practice (2013). Non-UK applicants must possess the IELTS/OET exam before obtaining a GMC licence to practice.
