Sister/Charge Nurse and Clinical Educator

Job summary

Are you a team player, with excellent communication and management skills and a willingness to develop education within a friendly dynamic tertiary NICU? We are seeking a Band 6 Qualified in Specialty neonatal nurse who would be interested in joining our Practice Development Team working 2 days a week in the Clinical Practice Facilitator (CPF) role and the remaining hours working on the NICU clinical Roster, to cover maternity leave.

You will be responsible for facilitating all members of the nursing team. The practice development team facilitate all staff through the 'Development Pathway' from induction of newly appointed staff, preparation and support for the Qualified in Speciality modules and consolidation of skills following the course. The CPF will also work alongside pre and post registration students, acting as a role model to strive for the delivery of first-class patient care. The post holder will also help in the facilitation of mandatory training and study days to ensure all staff remain up to date in their knowledge and skills. The NICU is one of the 3 tertiary centres for the Eastern Neonatal network and part of the East of England Neonatal ODN. The unit admits babies requiring tertiary neonatal care including surgery and neurosurgery.

Main duties of the job

Facilitate learning and professional development for NMAHPs and CSWs in clinical areas and learners on clinical placements, as directed by the Divisional Education Lead

Work collaboratively with education colleagues across the organisation to share best practice thus ensuring learners have a positive placement experience at CUH

Provide supervision and support for all unregistered/registered staff and learners always promoting evidence-based practice

Provide professional training and development of staff and learners through formal and informal teaching both in classroom and clinical settings

Support and promote a lifelong approach to learning and development among staff and learners by providing educational resources, implementing clinical supervision, and encouraging reflective practice

Audit clinical practice where required; ensure that any risks relating to quality are escalated to the Divisional Education Lead

Support clinical teams to maintain a centralised database of current skills and competencies, and address any shortfalls

Collaborate with colleagues across the organisation to co-ordinate and deliver Trust-wide education activities, including induction/onboarding, preceptorship, skill development, medical devices training and competency sign-off

Contribute to the delivery of education provided by the CUH Academy to both internal and external delegates
