Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the safeguarding team at CUH to cover maternity leave for the Named Midwife for safeguarding. This will be a fixed term contract of a year.

As the safeguarding maternity lead, the role includes direct responsibility for the wider maternity safeguarding and JUNO team which includes the specialist perinatal mental health, domestic and substance misuse and vulnerable women's midwives.

As well as line managing the specialist midwives the role has both a strategic and operational element and includeso Being a highly visible senior midwife, providing specialist knowledge, advice and clinical expertise to all staff in maternity services in all areas of Safeguarding vulnerable womeno Providing leadership and support in respect of the safeguarding agenda across the Women's Health directorate.o Working collaboratively as part of the wider CUH multi-disciplinary team and partner agencies to ensure that pregnant women and their babies who come into contact with our services are safeguarded and their welfare is promoted.o Working as part of the CUH Think Family safeguarding team in supporting all activities to ensure the Trust meet its statutory responsibilities to safeguard vulnerable adults, women, and children.

Main duties of the job

o To ensure that the Trust's systems and procedures for safeguarding within maternity are regularly monitored, evaluated and reviewed

o Identify and deliver staff training/development.

o Carry out audits to ensure that safeguarding practice within maternity is robust

o To provide expert professional advice and support regarding all aspects of maternity safeguarding to staff within maternity services, as well as to the wider Trust.

o To deliver safeguarding supervision

o To ensure that the Trust is represented at multi-agency safeguarding meetings.

o Providing a high level of communication by: Liaising with all appropriate members of multi-disciplinary team, external agencies and ensuring a seamless service between acute, primary care and external agency services. This includes report writing for unborn baby panels, child protection conferences, providing information following child deaths, responding to enquiries under Sections 17 and 47 of the Children's Act.

o Communicating very sensitive information to patients and relatives, requiring high levels of empathy and reassurance.

o To undertake Internal Management Reviews.

o To be a source of expert safeguarding maternity advice for patient complaints.

o To ensure appropriate processes are followed where allegations are made against maternity staff
