Job summary

Applications are invited for the post of Clinical Fellow Higher (ST4-5) in Acute Medicine/ Emergency medicine available to commence 02 September 2026 until 31 August 2027.

There are two posts available to commence from where the successful candidates will spend six months based in Acute (Internal) Medicine and six months in Emergency Medicine.

This post will be ideal for trainees looking to gain specialisation in ICM through the CESR pathway as it will allow time in accredited units to assess and give formal sign off. Educational supervision and oversight will be provided from clinical leads.

Main duties of the job

Acute Medicine:

As well as providing you with experience of working in a ward environment within a specific specialty in Medicine, this post will also offer you the opportunity to partake in the running of the General Medical Take after a period of observation. You will be expected to be able to provide clinical advice and support to junior colleagues and staff and demonstrate leadership and management skills.

Emergency Medicine:

In conjunction with the other medical and nursing staff of the department, you will participate in providing an emergency service to the local population. You will be expected to be present in the clinical areas assessing new patients and assist the Consultant staff in the day-to-day management of the department.

Full Registration and a Licence to Practice with the General Medical Council at time of application is required.

The applicant must have demonstrable skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking in English that enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues, as set out in the GMC's Good Medical Practice (2013). Non-UK applicants must possess the IELTS/OET exam before obtaining a GMC licence to practice.
