Senior Cardiac Physiologist

Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Cardiac Physiologist, wishing to further develop their skills, to join our team and provide excellent care to patients at Addenbrooke's Hospital and at new Community Diagnostic Centre. This is an opportunity to champion for diagnostic services on site and away from acute facilities with direct impact on patient experience and outcomes.

This is primarily an echo position however the post holder will be involved in all aspects of the non-invasive Cardiology Department. Ideal candidates will have passed their theory BSE exam and aiming to accredit fully within the next 6 months. Applicants post ETP/STP are welcome to apply.

We are a BSE accredited department, currently providing adult TTE, TOE, DSE, ESE, contrast and bubble echo procedures to the trust.

There will be opportunities for continuous professional development alongside weekly group teaching and echo-discussion sessions.

All applicants will be expected to hold BSc Clinical Physiology or equivalent. The post holder will be supported in achieving adult TTE BSE accreditation (or European equivalent).

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be involved in all aspects of the Cardiology Department. The post holder should possess the skills to perform and report transthoracic echocardiograms to BSE standards for both inpatient and outpatients, lead and report exercise stress tests, report ambulatory and 12 lead ECG's, as well as providing a range of support to the wider team as required. Training sessions will be available for the successful candidate to complete and maintain BSE accreditation.

The Non-Invasive Cardiology services at Addenbrookes include transesophageal echocardiography, exercise and dobutamine stress echocardiography, contrast, bubble and desynchrony studies.

The post holder will be exposed and trained to provide support in these areas as part of their personal development plan which is part of the appraisal system.

In addition to this, the post holder will be expected to undertake research and audit as part of their role, and will have protected time each week to do this.

The post holder will remain professional at all times, liaise with other clinical teams and maintain good public relations on a one-to-one basis with the general public and other interest groups.

Essential

  • BSc in cardiac clinical physiology.
  • Registered / eligible to register with the RCCP/ HCPC (must be registered no later than 6 months after appointment).
  • Intermediate Life Support

Desirable

  • HCPC/RCCP registration.
  • BSE accreditation (or equivalent, in part or completed)
  • MSc in cardiac clinical physiology.

Experience

Essential

  • Relevant intermediate experience in a range of non-invasive techniques (ECG, ambulatory ECG and blood pressure monitor fitting and analysis, technician led exercise stress testing, MIBI).
  • Perform and report standard transthoracic echocardiography to BSE standards.
  • Experience of advanced imaging techniques (exercise/dobutamine stress echo, TOE).
  • Experience working in a healthcare environment, working alongside clinical and managerial staff.
  • Experience of communicating directly with patients/carers and visitors.
  • Prior research carried out in NHS environment.
