Applications are invited for the post of Clinical Fellow Higher (ST6+/Senior Post CCT) in Ophthalmology (Vitreoretinal Surgery) at Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Trust.
This post is available from 05 August 2026 for a period of 12 months.
Main duties of the job
The Ophthalmology Department at Addenbrooke's is renowned as a centre of excellence in subspecialty ophthalmology. All ophthalmic subspecialties are represented except ocular oncology. We accept tertiary referrals from across the region for vitreoretinal surgery, paediatric ophthalmology and inherited eye disease, medical ophthalmology and specialised glaucoma surgery. In addition to the subspecialty services offered to the region we provide a quality core ophthalmology service to our local patients.
The vitreoretinal service deals with the full range of vitreoretinal conditions. The post-holder's timetable will include vitreoretinal clinics and 3-4 surgical sessions per week. Previous vitreoretinal surgical experience is not essential as training will be consultant-supervised from the outset. There will also be an opportunity to participate in the National Stickler Syndrome Service led by Professor Martin Snead.
In order to be considered applicants must meet the following essential criteria:
- FRCOphth or equivalent
- Completion of training up to ST6+ in Ophthalmology (or equivalent), including exposure to vitreoretinal surgery and medical retina at ST6+ level
- Cataract surgery logbook data including personal knowledge of posterior capsule rupture (PCR) rate
