Trainee Fertility Nurse/Midwife

Job summary

We are delighted to announce an exciting opportunity to develop the necessary skills and competencies to work towards becoming a Specialist Fertility Nurse/Midwife.

If you have a passion for women's health and are compassionate and focused on always giving excellent patient care this could be the role for you.

You will be working with a small, friendly team of Specialist Nurses and Healthcare Support Workers providing information, support and advice for infertile couples seeking assisted conception within Cambridge IVF and through the Department of Reproductive Medicine. You will also be required to communicate with the medical and scientific staff daily to help co-ordinate patient care and to ensure standard of care is always safe and safe.

Attention to detail is very important in this role.

Main duties of the job

Main duties include:

Working in a team to help organise and prioritise daily workload

Arranging patient appointments, conducting pre-treatment consultations, ordering screening tests/investigations, interpreting results and explaining treatment protocols.

Developing the knowledge to impart information about the Human Fertilization and Embryology Authority (HFEA).

Develop the skills to help gain informed consent to HFEA, Trust and Cambridge IVF treatments and procedures including gamete and embryo storage.

Other main duties include the following:

o Venipunctureo Administering Intra-muscular/subcutaneous injectionso Providing a teaching programme for patients to self-administer their treatment medicationso Knowledge of the scan support roleo Assisting in theatre at Oocyte Retrieval, Embryo Transfer, Intrauterine Insemination and Hyfosy procedureso Admitting patients for Oocyte Retrieval and recover following IV sedation,o Counselling patients following negative outcomeso Providing information to patients about the symptoms of Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome and escalating to medical team where appropriateo Knowledge of medicines management
