Job summary

Applications are invited for two Consultant posts to join our Paediatric Retrieval and Paediatric Intensive care teams at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Post 1 - 10 PA post in Paediatric Retrieval (PaNDR)

Post 2 - 10 PA post split with 5 PA's in Paediatric Intensive Care and 5 PA's in Paediatric Retrieval (PaNDR)

Main duties of the job

The appointees will be expected to provide Consultant clinical service, clinical leadership, specialist advice and multi-disciplinary management for the Paediatric Retrieval team and for the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit.

You will be fully registered with the GMC and ideally have a CCT in Paediatric Intensive care or equivalent experience and expertise or be within six months of award of CCT at the time of interview. About us

The applicant must have demonstrable skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking in English that enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues, as set out in the GMC's Good Medical Practice (2013). Job responsibilities

The successful candidate will join a friendly and enthusiastic team including clinicians, highly experienced Nurses, Specialty Registrars and fellows , dedicated ambulance technicians and the Emergency Bed Finding Service (EBS).

The Paediatric Retrieval service is co-located and integrated with the neonatal transport service and is operational 24/7, 365 days a year covering the East of England. The Paediatric team have now completed more than 1000 transfers since inception in April 2021.

Our Paediatric Intensive Care Unit supports a wide range of medical and surgical specialties, major trauma, education and research. We are the regional centre for paediatric surgery, with a 13 bedded PICU and a 40 cot neonatal unit. Paediatric cardiac surgery, paediatric transplantation and craniofacial are the only subspecialties not offered on site.There are close links with the University Department of Paediatrics and the Level 3 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.CUH, together with Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Foundation Trust and Cambridge University are well on the way in developments to build a new Cambridge Childrens Hospital on the Bio medical campus. This will include a fully integrated physical and mental health wards, a 16 bedded PICU as well as dedicated University space for paediatric research. Work is underway with the building expected to open in 2028.
