Job summary

A exciting opportunity to join a small and dedicated team of Orthopaedic Practitioners in Addenbrookes Plaster room.

working across fracture and specialist clinics such as , Ponsetti, diabetic foot and pediatric physiotherapy.

This diverse role provides the opportunity also supports pediatric theatres, inpatients and the emergency department.

Our main service is to apply and remove casts in different materials and their removal, as well as the measuring and fitting of braces which is becoming a larger element of the role as the service evolves in line with health care practices.

Main duties of the job

Our Main role is to apply and remove both simple and complex casts in a range of different materials.

To cover a range of specialist clinics, pediatric ponsetti casting , diabetic total contact casting and the application of removable casts

Ability to communicate effectively with other health care professional's and members of the wider disciplinary team.

Correct documentation of patients treatments

provide teaching to patients and care givers on plaster/brace care both verbally and provision of written care instruction

Ability to recognize concerns from a patient interaction, give correct information as they arise and able to escalate as needed.

Able to work as part of a team and autonomously

To act as a role model

Attend Theatres to apply complex casts, emergency department and wards as need to apply casts and braces.

Experience

  • Experience as a qualified Plaster Practitioner (6 months minimum), working in an Orthopaedic environment.
  • Previous Health care experience either in the primary or hospital setting.

Knowledge

  • Understanding of anatomy and physiology, relating to fracture, bone healing and Musculo skeletal congenital conditions.
  • Up to date with current casting techniques and materials.
  • Experience of working as a band 5, to include wound assessment and wound care competencies.
  • Knowledge of pressure area care (to include risk assessment and escalating/acting on findings).
  • Experience of working within an MDT.
  • Team working environment throughout the hospital.
