This is an exciting opportunity to join a unique and specialist team in a largely community-based post. Suitable for a Therapist (Occupational Therapist/Physiotherapist) or Nurse, the role requires working with Paediatric and Adult patients across specialist and community care environments in the East of England, specifically covering Bedfordshire and parts of Hertfordshire.
The role supports the care of patients with genetic and acquired neuromuscular disorders such as muscular dystrophy, spinal muscular atrophy and other muscle wasting conditions. You will support the regional specialist Neuromuscular Clinics at Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge as well as Neuromuscular Clinics in other hospitals/clinical settings in the region.
Neuromuscular conditions often require complex multidisciplinary care, working in multiple settings including Clinics, Inpatient Units, homes, schools / colleges and other Community settings.
You will provide coordination, advice and support for people living with a neuromuscular condition, their families and their carers.
The post is part time and makes up a regional service in a small and very effective team.
Main duties of the job
You will work directly and semi-autonomously supporting people living with neuromuscular conditions in the East of England and alongside the specialist neuromuscular teams at Addenbrooke's Hospital as well as community based Paediatric, Neurology and Therapy teams.
The regional Neuromuscular Care Advisors are based at Addenbrooke's Hospital but the nature of the work offers opportunity for flexible working. Many aspects of the role are now successfully managed using virtual platforms.
Supporting specialist Paediatric and Adult Neurology Consultants, and paediatric neuromuscular CNS, in the regional specialist Neuromuscular Clinics.
Providing specialist condition specific training and education to health, education and social care professionals as required to ensure maximally effective care for individuals in all settings.
Experience of delivering specialist advice and an understanding of the challenges faced relating to identification, assessment, treatment and ongoing management of a long-term condition
This role will involve independent travel within the East of England and so a driving licence and access to a vehicle is highly desirable. Travel costs incurred as part of the role will be reimbursed through the Trust's expenses systems. The Trust has a provision of business pool cars that can be used for work related, essential journeys.
