Sister/Charge Nurse - Paediatric Oncology

Job summary

We are actively seeking to recruit Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurses who wish to build on their existing experience, clinical skills and leadership qualities to optimise high quality patient care and excellent teamwork.

We are currently recruiting for our inpatient and outpatient areas whereby we provide care for children and young people from birth up to 16 years old undergoing treatment for oncological and haematological diagnoses. As the Principal Treatment Centre for the East of England we work closely with our shared care units around the region and wider teams, to provide continuity of care throughout the treatment trajectory. In the last year we have expanded our service to care for patients undergoing bone marrow transplant and will continue to develop this service in preparation for the development of the Cambridge Children's Hospital.

You will need to be an experienced nurse with Paediatric Oncology/Haematology and Chemotherapy and/or bone marrow transplant experience and have a clear passion for working in this speciality. You must be able to take charge of a shift, act as a positive role model and be involved in staff and service development so we can continue to provide safe, personalised and holistic care to our patients.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for competently providing safe and effective care, without supervision to children requiring in-patient hospitalisation and outpatient facilities.

SACT administration competent

Assess care needs, plan, implement and evaluate programmes of care.

Participate in the supervision, teaching, mentorship and appraisal of pre and post registration staff.

Regularly co-ordinate the management of care delivered by nursing and support staff and able to take charge of the area in the absence of the ward manager.

Demonstrate leadership ability

  • Safeguarding children Level 1, 2 and 3 training
