Job summary
The Nuclear Medicine Department at Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge, is seeking a Nuclear Medicine Physics Technologist for a fixed-term role (9 months), for 22.5 hours per week.
As the leading Nuclear Medicine Department in the region, we are equipped with three SPECT cameras and a PET-CT scanner. Our team is at the forefront of innovation in diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, and we are looking for a skilled and enthusiastic individual to support the work of our Physics team.
The primary duties of this role include radioactive waste management, ensuring therapy wards are decontaminated, cleaned, and ready for patients; performing routine quality control on radiation detectors; and assisting with the preparation and delivery of radionuclide therapies. Depending on your skills and ambitions, there may also be opportunities to take on additional responsibilities within the Physics team.
This fixed-term post is ideal for recent graduates seeking hands-on NHS experience in Medical Physics before applying to the Scientist Training Programme (STP).

Main duties of the job
The department of Nuclear medicine (DNM) carries out a wide range of diagnostic tests and therapeutic procedures involving the use of radioactive material. The post holder will be part of the physics team within DNM which supports the clinical and research work of the department.
Main duties:
- Participate in the management of radioactive waste.
- Monitor, decontaminate and clean areas used for radiation therapy.
- Carry out routine quality control checks on radiation counters, survey equipment and imaging equipment (SPECT & PET).
- Participate in the preparation, delivery and quantitative image analysis of complex radionuclide therapies.
- Assist with ensuring that the department adheres to relevant legislation.
