Job summary
The Chief Medical Officer is a pivotal Executive Board role, providing vision, professional leadership and strategic direction in the delivery of the Trust's ambitions in the provision of care, learning and research. The Chief Medical Officer will apply their clinical and wider leadership skills and experience, together with curiosity in service of driving great care, teaching and research.
The post holderprovides strong and effective clinical and medical leadership and engagement within the organisation and across professional boundaries and takes lead responsibility for the medical implications of clinical service strategy, service configuration, clinical performance, governance and professional conduct.
The Chief Medical Officer maintains effective working relationships with the Trust's academic and healthcare partners. The post holder also champions the Trust's status as a leading University teaching hospital and major centre for research anddevelopment andis responsible for leading a portfolio of responsibilities. These change from time totime and currently includes for example infection prevention control (the CMO being the Director of Infection, Preventionand Control (DIPC), clinical audit, medicines management and medical education
Main duties of the job
Patient safety, quality & improvement and operational performance
Provide professional clinical leadership to all Medical and Dental staff, championing the participation and engagement ofclinical leaders in the management and delivery of effective and efficient care, learning and research.
Ensure effective relationships are maintained between the Trust and Deanery/NHS England (post-graduate medicaleducation), and University of Cambridge Clinical School (undergraduate medical education).
Lead, from a medical perspective, the development of new models of care, fit for the future, that put patient need at thecentre, harness new technology and work collaboratively with professionals in and outside the hospital
Lead and promote the Trust's research and development agenda internally and externally, ensuring that high qualityresearch is able to flourish and is aligned with the strategic ambitions of the organisation.
Develop and maintain effective working relationships with external agencies and the local community, includingcommissioning bodies, GPs, local politicians, health organisations, interest groups, patient reference groups, the ShelfordGroup, and the local media.
