Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for a part-time Sister/Charge Nurse on Ward C9 Teenage and Young Adults (TYA) with Cancer. This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic and friendly team treating Oncology/Haematology patients aged 13-24, as part of the dedicated services within the Cancer Directorate. You will be supporting the ward/unit manager in the comprehensive management of the ward. Ensuring the delivery of safe, personalised and holistic care. This care is grounded in evidence-based practice and is centred on the unique needs of our young patients. Ward C9 TYA cares for both inpatient and outpatient Young people aged 13-24.

We are looking for an experienced (Paediatric or Adult trained) Nurse with Oncology/Haematology and Chemotherapy and/or bone marrow transplant experience to join our rapidly developing service. You will have the passion and drive to take charge of the Unit, lead the nursing team and continue to help develop the service. You will have excellent communication and clinical skills, and put patients at the heart of your work.

You must demonstrate competence at leading shifts, knowledge and experience in Oncology/haematology and be competent in chemotherapy administration. This is an exciting time to join the cancer nursing team at CUH as we continue to develop and grow our services for patients in preparation for opening our own Cancer Hospital (CCRH).

Main duties of the job

You will be responsible for coordinating the Day Unit and Ward as well as supporting the Senior Sister. Be competent in providing safe and effective care, including the administration of systemic anti cancer therapy to the patients on the Unit, providing bone marrow transplants and assisting in giving intrathecal chemotherapy.

To participate in the supervision, teaching, mentorship and appraisal of pre and post registration staff. To demonstrate professional leadership and act as a role model, ensuring the provision of a high quality, effective and safe clinical service in line with the corporate nursing and midwifery agenda.

You will also act as a Deputy for the Senior Sister in her absence across the full range of management responsibilities, including bed management and staff management.
