Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and experienced individual to join Cambridge University Hospitals and lead our newly established Performance Function, benefiting our patients, colleagues, organisation and local system.

The Head of Performance is a Senior Leader within CUH, reporting to the Director of Delivery and will have regular contact with the Executive Team. As the Head of Performance, you will have the opportunity to build your own team, embedding a culture of accountability and performance across the organisation. The Performance Function is critical in supporting CUH to deliver high quality, effective and efficent care.

Working closely with colleagues across Corporate and Divisional Teams, with a particularly strong relationship with the Head of Delivery, you will ensure that we are using business intelligence to drive insightful and impactful conversations about performance which lead to tangible change. You will not only have accountability for in year performance, but will also play a key role in longer term trust-wide planning and development of governance and reporting arrangements.

Main duties of the job

  • We are looking for an expert leader to take forward the Trust's new central performance function.
  • The team will be responsible for ensuring business intelligence is used to drive insightful and impactful conversations about performance, working with BI team to develop robust performance management systems.
  • This role is critical in holding to account very senior leaders from Executives and Divisions for performance related issues, using their expert knowledge of operational best practice to provide constructive support and challenge.
  • The role has responsibility for maintaining and developing the Trust's accountability framework, with a view to making the Trust's delivery of services to patients as strong as possible.
  • This role will play a key role in longer-term trust-wide planning and development of governance and reporting arrangements to ensure delivery of strategic priorities. Contribute to budget setting and overall financial performance.
  • This person will lead their team to drive forward the delivery against key operational targets, capacity-related operational and strategic projects as they arise.

  • Masters or equivalent experience/qualification in business, operations management, planning, health management or related field
  • Project management qualification (e.g. Prince 2, Managing Successful Projects) or equivalent experience/qualification

  • Proven track record of delivery at a senior level in a large complex service-focused organisation, including staff management, change management, performance management and business planning
