Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity to join the Cambridge University Hospitals as a Band 7 Physiotherapy Team lead for the Department of Medicine for the Elderly (DME).

The post is full time on a fixed term or secondment basis up to a period of 12 months subject to the current post-holder's return from maternity leave.

The role will incorporate a clinical caseload and an educational role not just within the physiotherapy team but also within the wider multidisciplinary team. The post will provide significant opportunities for people development and management, as well as service development, of the DME physiotherapy team and within the department as a whole.

We are committed to supporting the on-going personal and professional development of our staff. Support will be available for the successful applicant from the management team and Clinical Specialists as well as through appropriate training courses.

Main duties of the job

To perform advanced specialist physiotherapeutic assessment of patients with diverse medical, neurological and musculoskeletal presentations to provide a diagnosis and develop an individualised treatment programme and to maintain records.

Educate and train physiotherapy colleagues, students and the multidisciplinary team regarding the medical specialist area and ensure the team are competent in assessing and treating their patients.

Supervise, educate and assess the performance of physiotherapy students to a graduate standard and work with universities to ensure the standard of practice and teaching meets the degree level qualification.

Undertake evidence-based practice, audit and research projects to further own and team's clinical practice. Lead implementation of specific changes to practice or contribute to service development.

Communicate effectively with patients, relatives, physiotherapists and the multidisciplinary team to ensure a high standard of patient care and service.

Actively involved in the development of the team and the physiotherapy service. Undertake management roles including coordinating workloads, delegating duties, appraising and mentoring staff, recruitment and selection.

Maintain specialist respiratory physiotherapy competency to participate in the out of hour's respiratory physiotherapy service and to assist the training of junior staff to a level of agreed competency.

To deputise for the Deputy Physiotherapy Manager in their absence.
