Job summary

You will be a member of the Clinical Coding Team who translate medical information (diagnoses and interventions) from patient's electronic record to assign appropriate clinical codes using ICD-10 and OPCS-4 classifications. This information must be timely, complete and accurately recorded. It is required for cost analysis, invoicing CCGs, treatment effectiveness and outcome measurements.

Working from home - with reasonable but minimal notice to be onsite if required and/or depending on circumstances. This role is paid at Annex 21 until completion of NCCQ exam.

Main duties of the job

Undertake the Clinical Coding Standards Foundation Course (25 days) and pre-course elearning modules. Course content includes Anatomy & Physiology, Medical Terminology, Four Step Coding Process, Clinical Coding Standards and History and theory of Clinical Coding. Each module has individual practice activities and end of module assessments to determine knowledge and progress.

Demonstrate by assessment an understanding of the rules and conventions that surround the Classifications of Diseases and Healthcare Related problems, tenth revision (ICD-10) and Office of Population Census and Surveys fourth revision (OPCS-4) at the end of the foundation course.

Identify in the patient medical record, what clinical information needs to be collected and to correctly assign clinical codes to diagnoses and procedures in line with current national standards.
