Applications are invited for the role of East Genomic Laboratory Hub (East GLH) Scientific Research Director.
We are seeking a leading Research Scientist (consultant clinical scientist, academic clinician or academic scientist or equivalent) in genomics, who will lead on establishing and guiding research and innovation activity across all three genomics laboratories which comprise the East GLH. The East GLH is a partnership between three Trusts. Commissioned by NHSE Genomics Unit and lead by Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, the partner laboratories are at University Hospitals Leicester NHS Trust and Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust. Together, these laboratories are responsible for delivering the core National Genomic Test Directory to the East Genomic Medicine Region of over 9 million people, and additionally provide specialised genomic testing for other GMS regions.
You will have a proven track record of initiating and participating in genomic research, and will demonstrate a commitment to embedding technological and scientific advances into clinical service for maximum patient benefit. Working in conjunction with the East GLH Clinical Operations Director and the Medical Director, you will be responsible for setting strategic direction with a particular focus on research and innovation, and will develop mutually beneficial relationships with academia, industry and educational establishments to support and promote translational research.
Main duties of the job
Be responsible for horizon scanning as it applies to the East Genomic Laboratory Hub (East GLH), to support its ability to deliver the National Genomic Test Directory and adapt to evolving requirements as contracted by NHSE
Establish and oversee the research and innovation activity of the East GLH, in conjunction with the GLH Clinical Operations Director, GLH Medical Director and the GLH Clinical and Scientific Leads.
Set strategic direction in line with NHSE vision for the NHS Genomic Medicine Service and with any nationally or internationally agreed projects and initiatives in genomics, with a particular focus on research and innovation.
Identify and develop mutually beneficial collaborations with NIHR Biomedical Research Centres, NIHR Clinical Research Facilities, NIHR Clinical Research Networks (CRNs), NHS Trust Provider Research and Development departments, Higher Education Institutions, Academic Health Science Networks (AHSNs) and the Life Sciences Industry in the East GLH geography to promote and support translational research for the health benefit of the population
Be responsible for the provision of high level scientific advice and expertise to the East GLH Management Board, East GLH/GMSA Partnership Board, NHS England Genomics Unit and Genomics England
