Job summary

Are you interested in working in research? Do you want to support clinical studies that could shape the future of medical treatment? We have an exciting opportunity for a band 3 healthcare assistant to work within our specialist research unit. You will be supporting the nursing staff to care for patients and healthy volunteers recruited to research studies. Supporting non-commercial and commercial studies in a variety of areas, including metabolic, paediatric and maternal health.

Your core duties will include: phlebotomy, cannulation, recording vital signs, ECG, and sample processing

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • To assist in delivering high standards of holistic care to patients and healthy volunteers within the research setting, promoting their equality and dignity at all times.
  • Perform venepuncture and cannulation
  • To assist with patient hygiene, elimination, mobility, physical comfort as appropriate
  • Assist in orientating the patient, healthy volunteers to the clinical
  • To assist the patient/ healthy volunteers with dietary needs including the provision of meals, drinks and snacks as appropriate.
  • Perform and report clinical observation of a patients /healthy volunteers temperature, pulse, respiration rate and blood pressure. Obtain measurements of a patients/ healthy volunteers, height and weight.
  • Observe and report changes to a patients condition to a registered nurse/ team or shift
  • Obtain urine, stools and sputum specimens and perform
  • Perform venepuncture and cannulation
  • Undertake basic sample handling/processing within the CCRC across a range of studies.
  • Perform Basic Life Support, and give assistance to professionals during advanced life support procedures
  • Promote effective communication within the multidisciplinary
  • Assist in the maintenance of Emergency Report any hazards to the nurse in charge.
  • Ensure the clinical area is clean and Ensure equipment and utility areas are maintained in clean, working order.
  • Transfer specimens to other parts of the hospital as
  • Competent in the use of the EPIC.
  • Assist in ensuring that all patient documentation required is available

Educational

  • To develop own knowledge base, ensuring practice is evidence based and contributes to the enhancement of patient care.
