An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the East NHS Genomic Laboratory Hub (GLH) as a Scientist Education Lead.Building on the significant work done to date to increase the number of people across the NHS trained in genomics, this role will focus on the education and training of genomics laboratory staff including delivery through the emerging national Genomics Training Academy (GTAC) structure.The GLH Scientist Education Lead will build a supportive, collaborative and sustainable approach to education and training of staff across laboratories in Cambridge, Nottingham and Leicester, working with a variety of stakeholders to provide a high-quality, system-wide training environment. The primary focus will be on the education and training of the genomics laboratory workforce but the post-holder will also collaborate, where appropriate, in the development of other members of the workforce within the Genomic Medicine Service (GMS).
Main duties of the job
- Working between the GTAC and East GLH to support workforce transformation, training and education with programmes for developing and upskilling genomics staff at all levels, including post registration development, in accordance with national priorities, such as cancer and whole genome sequencing
- Work with the GTAC teaching faculty and working groups; the GLH and Genomic Medicine Service Alliance (GMSA) Education & Training Leads; the Operational Directors, GLH Training Managers, Team Leads and others to plan, deliver and report on the teaching and training of new and existing healthcare science workforce to make the best use for the NHS of the expertise in genomic technologies and its application for patient benefit
- Along with GLH Training Managers, mentor and support GLH clinical science STP trainees, clinical scientists in training (through alternative routes), genomic technologists and biomedical scientists in training. This will include regular individual meetings to chart progress, identify challenges to progress and develop and agree achievable individualised objectives and learning pathway

East GLH is one of seven Genomic Hubs recently established to provide the new National Genomic Medicine Service for NHS England, and is led by Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (CUH), working with Nottingham University Hospital (NUH) and University Hospital Leicester (UHL).
Two Scientist Education Lead posts are currently available; one to be based at the genomics laboratory at Cambridge University Hospitals and one at Nottingham University Hospitals. Both post-holders will be responsible for GLH-wide education and training across all staff of the three laboratories comprising East NHS Genomic Laboratory Hub (Cambridge, Nottingham, Leicester).
