Job summary

You will work as an independent Consultant Nurse employing a high degree of autonomy to deliver a comprehensive service to patients with hydrocephalus and disorders of Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF) dynamics, with a particular focus on the management of Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (NPH).

Following the establishment of a multidisciplinary service for management of NPH you will form part of a team consisting of neurosurgeons, specialist nurses, neuropsychologists, infusion technicians and a service coordinator.

The post is structured around the four core functions of Consultant Practice as set out in the multi-professional consultant-level practice capability and impact framework, which include:Expert practice, Strategic and enabling leadership, Learning developing, and improving across the system, and Innovation and research.

As part of the role you will provide expert professional advice to patients, carers and colleagues. You will provide education and training to other staff and students, and ensure the maintenance of clinical excellence within the hydrocephalus service. You are also required to undertake practice innovation and research within your specialist area.

Main duties of the job

Manage and lead a specialist service with responsibility for ensuring high quality, cost-effective healthcare or Manage and lead a workforce of specialist nurses (i.e. across a Division)

Responsible for the assessment, planning, diagnosis implementation and evaluation of care, as an autonomous practitioner with highly specialist

Be involved in the strategic review of clinical services as appropriate

Be responsible for implementing a clearly defined integrated approach to patient care encompassing new treatments and evidence based care
