Job summary

Applications are invited for the post of Consultant Cardiologist at Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge.

At Cambridge University Hospitals, our goal is to successfully integrate high quality preclinical cardiovascular science with a world-leading clinical trials organisation, operating in a University / Hospital partnership. Following recent expansion of the department, we are now seeking a colleague who, with the multi-disciplinary team, will provide specialist care of Heart Failure patients, within Inpatient, Outpatient, Ambulatory and Virtual Ward settings. The successful applicant will also participate in the Cardiology Consultant of the Week rota for inpatients, including out of hours on-call, expected to be 4-6 weeks / year. There is no commitment to General Medicine.

Main duties of the job

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic individual to join our established clinical team and help define the future structure of the service. The department includes 14 consultants with specialist interest in echocardiography, imaging, heart failure, cardio-oncology, ischaemic heart disease, cardiac rhythm management and maternity cardiology, and it delivers the regional Inherited Cardiac Conditions service. Five consultants have primary appointments with the University of Cambridge.

Royal Papworth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is collocated on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus, housing the regional surgical centre and providing Coronary and Structural Intervention, Electrophysiology and Transplant / Mechanical Circulatory Support services.

You will be fully registered with the GMC and ideally have a CCT in Cardiology or be within six months of award of CCT at the time of interview. Applications are welcomed from those unable to work full time for personal reasons or those wishing to job-share.

Leadership is a key requirement of doctors' professional work and this innovative programme is designed to support Consultants to hone the leadership and management skills they need to succeed at CUH.

About us

The applicant must have demonstrable skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking in English that enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues, as set out in the GMC's Good Medical Practice (2013). Non-UK applicants must possess the IELTS/OET exam before obtaining a GMC licence to practice.
