An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated Ophthalmic Nurse to join our dedicated, friendly and multi-disciplinary team within the Ophthalmology Outpatient Department as a Band 6 Medical Retina Specialist Nurse on a permanent part-time time post.

This would be a great opportunity for an existing ophthalmic nurse who is looking for a new career opportunity. We have a variety of nurse-led clinics as well as offering diagnostics and support to our Consultants, Fellows and allied Professionals within the department.

The main aspects of the role is for you to perform intravitreal injections administration and manage the day to day running of nurse-led clinics within the Medical Retina service.

The job role also include participation in supporting the Medical Retina service in clinic management, clinic coordination, auditing, service development, and patient and staff education.

The Medical Retina Specialist Nurse role is to support a very busy Medical Retina service. It is desirable that you already have knowledge and experience working within an ophthalmic setting, though training and support to gain these skills will be provided.

You will deliver safe, effective, high quality care to our patients.

Within the Eye Department at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Addenbrookes Hospital site we are responsible for service provision to patients in the Main Outpatients.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for the provision of specialist ophthalmic nursing and carry out specialist nursing procedures for patients with medical retina conditions. This will include the provision of intravitreal injections, fundus fluorescein angiography, OCT review and virtual AMD clinics.

The post holder will act as a coordinator in the medical retina service ensuring patients are seen and assessed by all members of the multidisciplinary team. They will act as first point of contact for medical retina patients who have clinical concerns.

The post holder will be a key member of staff in participating in the development of care of patients attending the medical retina service. They will be working autonomously and are accountable for their own professional actions. They are responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of service users, and always working in a manner that promotes the dignity and human rights of patients and clients.
