Job summary

Due to expansion of solid cancer services, we have an exciting new post for a HCPC registered Principal Scientist to Join the Solid Cancer team within the East of England. The East GLH has a population of approximately 10M and the Genomic Laboratory has excellent facilities to develop and expand cancer testing across the region. The solid cancer service has close ties to academia which provides opportunity to publish and support translational research.

You will play a role in the operational delivery of a key solid cancer service area and help shape how cancer genomic delivery adapts to the requirements of an evolving Genomic Medicine Service.

Main duties of the job

  1. Responsible for delivery of existing and prospective solid cancer services by leading delivery in a key area including line management of scientists
  2. Analysis, interpretation, presentation, and authorisation of solid cancer clinical reports
  3. Advise and inform clinical colleagues on pertinent aspects of solid cancer service delivery
  4. Contribute to the training and supervision of scientific staff including project students
  5. Contribute to the evolution and strategic direction of cancer molecular services including compliance with internal and external quality regulations

Essential

  • First degree in an appropriate biological science
  • Completion of a formal training programme in Laboratory Genetics, OR postgraduate qualification (PhD or equivalent) in relevant subject and externally assessed clinical genetics laboratory experience
  • Completion of Part 1 FRCPath in Genetics; OR PhD in relevant Human Genetics subject and actively preparing for part1 FRCPath

Desirable

  • Part 2 FRCPath in Genetics, or working towards

Experience

Essential

  • Significant experience of working as a Clinical Scientist
  • Research and development relevant to molecular genetic testing
  • Project management
  • Supervision / management of staff

  • Experience in whole genome sequencing and other specialised molecular genetics methods applied to cancer genetics
